ChromaQueer Film & Arts Festival Presents: QueerPhoric Storytelling

Stories of Queer Joy, Queer Love and Loss, and Queer Truth. Storytellers led and developed by Storyteller Jeffrey Canton.

After workshopping their stories earlier in the week with Jeffrey Canton, local 2SLGBTQIA+ storytellers will step up to the mic to share personal moments that may have been transformative, including those that expressed intense joy, absolute freedom, or the deep satisfaction that comes from fully embracing, expressing, and celebrating one's 2SLGBTQIA+ identity.

Jeffrey Canton’s Queerphoric Storytelling draws on the work and influence of writer, poet, and artist Joe Brainard (1942-1994), best known for his 1970 experimental memoir I Remember.

Looking For… follows Teddy, a Black queer man in Ottawa as he navigates dating, career uncertainty and the search for a place to call home.

Through quiet moments and intimate encounters, the film explores solitude, vulnerability, and self-discovery. In a rapidly changing world, Teddy longs for connection, stability, and the courage to imagine a future where he truly belongs.

Teddy Dumont is a young Black queer community leader born and raised in Ottawa with Haitian roots.

For the second edition of Active Listening we've assembled a lineup of stellar DJs for our return to our favourite HiFi Lounge, FONO! You'll have to take our word for it, or wait until next week for the full lineup reveal.

Active Listening, notably “the practice of being fully present in a conversation” for us goes beyond conversations, as listening is a key principle of a dance floor. The title also invokes being active, such as dancing, another core element of our events. Utilizing both the ballroom and the lounge at FONO, you’ll be transcended into a dance party like no other. Standout DJs, live visuals in The Ballroom and two vinyl DJ sets in the HiFi Lounge are sure to have you active.

Marc McLaughlin and band return to Ottawa on their fall tour of Eastern Canada. Joining them will be Kingston-based bilingual pop outfit Good Fortune and local songwriter Claude Munson.

Marc McLaughlin is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Fredericton, NB, crafting hushed, emotionally direct songs that blur the line between left-field pop and lo-fi folk. Following a year of performances opening for the likes of Dan Mangan, Spencer Krug, and By Divine Right, the band heads out on the road with a handful of new songs from an upcoming album.

Join songwriter and artist KASHIN | 家倩 for an intimate evening celebrating the release of her new single, Unpromised Land.

Inspired by her parents’ refugee journey, Unpromised Land explores the complicated realities of migration and displacement. The song examines the discrepancy between the promise of a new beginning and the lived experience of arriving in a country where newcomers are often expected to assimilate, remain grateful, and stay silent.

Moving beyond a personal family story, the song engages with broader questions of migration and national identity, asking who gets to define what it means to belong.

The evening will feature a live performance of Unpromised Land and other songs from KASHIN’s growing body of work, followed by a moderated conversation about the ideas and creative process behind the music, with plenty of opportunity for audience questions.

Guests will also be invited to enjoy a selection of appetizers and spend time connecting with one another before and after the performance.

Come for an intimate evening of music and storytelling as KASHIN brings the world of Unpromised Land to life.

Bring some Lo-Fi to your Hi-Fi

Sonny Walkman is the cassette DJ project of Sam Aleums. He developed a romantic affection for the flawed format in 2023, and the CJ project is his way of showing appreciation for these fragile artifacts. Like vinyl records, tapes are physical objects with a history; but unlike them, they are not durable: each spin could be the last. Sonny Walkman embraces that impermanence, and celebrates the fleeting joys of life to their fullest extent with custom-built CJ decks and thoughtful selection across an eclectic mix of synth pop, hip-hop, funk, electronica and more. We promise you've never heard the music quite like this before."

CORE is coming to FONO for a night of immersive DJ sets, vendor market & good vibes all around. Last party at FONO was one to remember, and we're truly excited to do it all over again. This time we have the pleasure of hosting Shuv, Sweet Morgane & DJ Rebis, some of the most talented DJs in our scene. Expect some deep cuts and rolling grooves, all night long.
